Advertising Boards

Advertising Boards

are used very commonly all over the world in millions of shops and stores. They can also be known as A-Boards. Advertising boards can come in many different forms, they can be hung from walls, poles, up high, on skyscrapers... the possibilities are endless. can also ne on a stand (legs), they can free stand in shops to advertise any given product, event or anything you wish.

can also have clips on the back, these can then be hung on the end of shop gondola's, this can be a very big point of interest and can draw the eyes attention using striking images, text and colours.

can also be wall mounted, they can stand behind counters for example, displaying other products that the customer may wish to purchase that they perhaps forgot.

An advertising board is essentially a board... normally wooden or plastic that advertising can be mounted onto, this tends to be a paper advert that is help in place by sometimes Perspex that covers the advert and attaches to the board.

There are many companies in the world that specialise is printing of these adverts for use with your advertising boards, they are completely customisable and contain any images or text you want, you can incorporate many different images at once, along with company branding also able to be printed.

Add Humor To Your Speech Without Telling Jokes

Add Humor To Your Speech Without Telling Jokes

How often have you heard someone start a speech with a joke? Too often probably. Speakers with limited experience tend to tell jokes just to get a laugh in the hope the audience will warm up to them. The jokes are often irrelevant to the topic of their speech.
Experienced speakers know there are better ways to add humor to a speech or presentation, including:.

Using funny stories and anecdotes--not jokes--in your speech

Everyone has had bad experiences that become funny with the passage of time. They make great stories Remember that today's tragedy is tomorrow's funny anecdote.

If you don't feel comfortable talking about yourself, borrow stories from other people. It's acceptable to as long as you credit the source.

Collecting Stories from your audience

"Jollytologist" Allen Klein tells how he'd often ask his audiences "How do you spell relief?" "L-A-U-G-H" was his answer. Then during one of his presentations, an audience member cried out, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." It was hysterical. Klein now relates the story as part of many of his presentations.

Creating a fun atmosphere in the room before you speak

Since I'm a former news anchor and sportscaster, I sometimes arranged for the person introducing me to show some of my worst on-air bloopers in video clips (there was plenty of material to draw from). The bloopers always got people laughing, and also let them know I wasn't afraid to laugh at myself a little--a great way to connect with them right from the start.

Self-denigrating humor

In the 70's, President Gerald Ford was skewered regularly on Saturday Night Live about his lack of grace. Ford struck back by making fun of himself better than the SNL writers ever could.

He told his audiences about the night he met his wife Betty, and how he wanted to dance with her "in the worst way." Then he'd say, "And Betty later told me I did just that--dance in the worst way."

Ford also said he had to become the center on his college football team because center was the only position where he didn't have to move my feet.

If someone as important as a former president can poke fun at himself, the rest of us can too. Self-denigrating humor is a powerful tool.

Using interesting props in your speech

I'd sometimes bring along "IFB" to use as a as a prop. An IFB (which stands for "interruptible feedback) is an ear piece TV reporters use when they're doing live reports from the scene of a news story. The IFB allows them to hear what the people back in the studio are saying to them as they're being introduced, and also allows them to hear questions the anchors might ask.

I would sometimes show a blooper clip of what can happen when something goes wrong with an IFB. The clip showed a female reporter stuttering and stammering during a live report. She sounded absolutely smashed. She wasn't.

It turns out someone had unintentionally pressed the wrong button back in the control room, and the reporter was hearing her own words in her IFB about half a second after she spoke, which, take my word for it, is extremely distracting. For about 15 seconds, she battled and tried to be as professional as she could, but the harder she tried, the funnier she sounded. She finally ripped the IFB from her ear and continued her report.

The clip always got the audience howling.

Borrowing humor

The Internet is a great place to find one liners and funny quotes. Personally, I borrowed often from Yogi Berra ("When you come to a fork in the road, take it..."), Will Rogers ("when Democrats want to form a firing squad, they get into a circle...") and many others.

Buying humor from people who sell it

There are professionals who will write funny stuff for you, and they're generally not expensive. You can also check your local comedy club and hire someone who's probably pretty good at writing one liners. Or do a search for "humor writers" or "humorists" on the Internet.

Steve Allen once said, "People would rather be entertained than educated." But if you can entertain and educate at the same time, you have the makings of a great speech--without ever telling a single joke.

George McKenzie is a retired TV anchor, sportscaster and radio talk show host. He often contributes articles to Speech Tips and Tools, a resource website for both professional and novice public speakers.

A Sneaker Evolution

A Sneaker Evolution

A Sneaker Evolution

Those shoes that you just can't live without, that you use for working out, doing yard work, walking, running or just hanging out - the sneaker - has a fascinating history.

The sneaker has been around since the 1800s when the Industrial Revolution took hold on America and rubber began being produced. Sneakers were once called plimsolls when they were first made in the 1800s as a plain rubber soled shoe. Goodyear, now a tire manufacturer, began as a rubber shoe company and in 1892 introduced Keds to the world. The word "sneaker" was also introduced to the world about a decade later when an advertising agent gave these rubber soled shoes the name sneakers because the soles were so quiet and didn't make any noise on any surface.

Converse was the next company to release a sneaker to the world in 1917. They called it the Converse All Star and it was the shoe worn by basketball players. This shoe - the Converse All Star - later became the Chuck Taylor All Star and became a necessity to basketball players, kids and others for more than 50 years.

Adi and Rudolph Dassler introduced the first shoe used for tennis, or the tennis shoe, in 1931 and the brand name Adidas was born. Soon after Rudolph Dassler teamed with Puma Schuhfabrik to produce the Puma brand shoe for football.

It took until the 1950s for sneakers to be the preferred footwear of teenagers after James Dean was photographed wearing his jeans and white sneakers. Girls and boys wore their sneakers as a symbol of rebellion.

In 1968 the sneaker giant Nike enters the sneaker scene after Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman partner to create Blue Ribbon Sports shoes which was later changed to Nike after the Greek Goddess of Victory. In 1971 the famous Nike swoosh was bought from a graphic design student for a mere $35! In 1979 Nike created the first Nike Air sole shoe claiming a revolutionary air-cushioning shoe. They introduce the first shoe using this technology called the Nike Tailwind. However, one of the most memorable shoe lines that Nike released was the Air Jordan which hit the markets in 1985.

Since then Nike has captured the athletic shoe market. In 2001 they introduced their Nike Shox advanced support technology. This system uses columns of engineered foam to give runners and athletes superior cushioning and support. This was a new revolution in shoe design.

Nike continued to lead the market in 2003 and acquired Converse, Inc. The Chuck Taylor All Star is reintroduced and is again a fashion staple in the lives of teenagers across the country.

Sneakers have come so far that they are not strictly for athletes anymore. In 2004 Reebok formed a partnership with music professionals to create their Sound and Rhythm line. This was done on an attempt to grow and heighten sales and to recognize the growing popularity of the music industry and it's effect on today's youth.

Whether you are a professional athlete, casual athlete, music enthusiast or lover of fashion only, there is sure to be several pairs of sneakers in your wardrobe to fit every facet of your life. But did you ever know that this staple item had such an interesting history behind it?

A Short History of Football

A Short History of Football

A Short History of Football

Football also known as American Football is a sport played between two teams competing for territory on a football field using a ball and set play. The objective of the game is getting the ball to the opposing team's goal line by either scoring a running touchdown or by kicking the ball over the post and between the uprights of the goal. It is not like soccer which has a goal keeper; instead it is more similar to Rugby and Australian Rules football.

Rugby which was the predecessor of Football was invented in England during 1860s. Its forerunners are similar to soccer and dates back to the middle ages when groups of rival villages competed to score a goal against each other.

In England during the 1860s, some schools, universities and clubs got together to form a set of rules allowing different teams from different schools and districts to play with each other. The published rules were the predecessor of modern soccer. However, every teams did not accept them and chose make their own code known as rugby.

The rules of football date back to the English parent games. American Football is also native to North America and old versions were played in the early 1800s in Princeton. The game was called 'Ballown' and it eventually became known as football but the rules kept on changing.

A similar form of game was played at Harvard University which was greatly enjoyed by senior students. The game was called 'Bloody Monday' as it was played on first Monday of the academic year.

When the rules of rugby and soccer were agreed on in England, the US entered a new period of prosperity brought about by the end of the civil war. Princeton and Rutgers created their own rules and played the very first intercollegiate game of football on the 6th November 1869.

When the intercollegiate games were admired, the representatives from Princeton, Rutgers, Columbia and Yale met to formulate a set of rules to be used for future intercollegiate games. They established the Intercollegiate Football Association and adopted many of the rules of rugby.

Football in the Americas was very much similar to rugby had its dissenters. One was Walter Camp of Yale who wanted a shorter playing field and fewer players.

American style football became more popular with Americans than the older rugby styled game. Colleges in the US soon adopted Camps new rules and established American Football as the leading football code.

During the 1890s, many colleges banned the game for being very rough with serious injuries. Later President Roosevelt called on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), successor to IFA, to eliminate brutality from the game. Changes were made which were so successful to American Football that non college teams based around community athletic clubs formed and began to compete against each other.

Professional football and the NFL started to dominate with increasing viewers by the 1950s. A rival association called the American Football League (AFL) started in areas not already serviced by NFL teams and quickly competed for the best players, viewers and network broadcasting contracts numbers, and network broadcasting contracts. In 1970, NFL and AFL were merged and expressed as an important moment in the history of American Football. A stronger league also emerged and created the Super Bowl as its defining championship game.

A List of the Highest Paid Football Players in the NFL

The NFL football players are the highest paid athletes in professional sports. Why are NFL players compensated with such a high salary, and why is there so much money available for the players? Also, do teams use different models for salary distribution, and do high salaries provided to players result in a winning organization? In this article we will try to address these questions. Finally, we will examine the implications of high NFL player salaries for the fans, players, and management.

To understand the concept of NFL player salary, you first need to understand the term salary cap in the NFL. The salary cap is the amount of money an NFL team can spend on salaries for their players per year. The salary cap has progressively increased year by year since its inception back in 1994.

The NFL salary cap, as negotiated by the NFL Players Union in the current collective bargaining agreement, is 62.24% of all football related revenue divided by 32 teams. For the 2009 season that figure is 128 million dollars, which is the amount of money each team can spend on NFL player salaries.

The following shows the steady increase in salary cap since 1999:

Salary Cap Per Team for NFL Player Salaries by Year:

2009 $128 million

2008 $116 million

2007 $109 million

2006 $102 million

2005 $85.5 million

2004 $80.5 million

2003 $75 million

2002 $71 million

2001 $67.5 million

2000 $62.2 million

1999 $58.4 million

As the salary cap increases, so does the salary of players. The real question is how is the money distributed to players? There is a type of salary distribution model that teams use which is not known to the general public. Each team seems to use a slightly different model. Before looking at this distribution concept, lets take a look at a list of the highest paid NFL players for 2008. In looking at the list below, it is interesting to note that the top 20 salaries for 2008 only had a couple of quarterbacks. Yet the highest paid player for 2008 was quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. It should be noted that at the time of this writing, the most current NFL salary statistics was for the 2008 season. So who were the highest paid NFL players for 2008.

The following table tells it all:

A General Breakdown of Football Apparel

A General Breakdown of Football Apparel

A General Breakdown of Football Apparel

Football apparel has evolved over the decades from long pants and heavy shirts to the micro-fiber technological wonders of today. As styles shifted from year to year, the fundamental football uniform has changed color, length, and details. What hasn't changed, however, is the general makeup of the gear each team wears. There are regulations that must be followed in each league regarding the player identification system (numbers on the backs of shirts), and the types of cleats that are allowed. Most teams also include several sponsor logos on their modern uniforms to advertise the companies that provide them with the funding they need to play.

The Basic Kit
Football apparel is relatively straightforward. Since the game is played on such a large field, the lightest clothing possible is usually the best. Football is played in a team shirt with the player's number emblazoned across the back. The players today wear shorts that only go down to about mid-thigh. The socks can be knee length or shorter, depending upon style preference. Football cleats finish off the uniform, and there are many varieties of cleats that are worn by professionals and amateurs.

Football Shirt Styles
The most interesting element of football apparel by far is the football shirt. This creatively colorful jersey only has two requirements - that the player's number be displayed prominently, and that the whole team wears matching shirts. The goalie is the only member of the team who has the option to wear a different shirt, and they usually opt for something that is easily recognizable from a distance. Traditional football shirts had thin vertical stripes of alternating colors, but as time and technology have advanced, the patterns and colors of football shirts have become more and more creative. Today you will see swirls of color, blocks of alternating colors, patterns that fade into one another, and every other imaginable shirt design.

Football Shoes
The most practical piece of football apparel is the choice of cleats. This is the one element of the uniform that can vary from player to player, even if they are on the same team. A player's footwear is incredibly important, as it directly affects the player's ability to maneuver quickly and handle the ball well. Turf shoes are generally used in football. Turf shoes have smaller cleats that will provide traction without digging too deeply into the turf - so the player can shift directions quickly without fear of twisting an ankle or knee.

Socks Finish it Off
Socks can add a touch of whimsy to football apparel. Most teams wear socks that stretch up to the knee. The socks can be a solid color to match the uniform shirt, or they may have horizontal stripes to add a little bit of interest to the design. When a team chooses to wear stockings that have stripes or patterns, it can create a unique visual when they begin to run up and down the pitch. Striped stockings echo the traditional stylings of the late 1800s.

This is when an agent will have the first idea on how much they can offer you for the car, or when a buyer will decide whether they may be interested in it. Have a look at the body shell and locate any scratches, dents or signs of corrosion. It may be a good idea to hire a professional to estimate the expense of fixing it, but regardless of the cost, it will always cost you less than what the person negotiating the price will think it costs. They will have you lower the price even if the body state does not actually bother them and they never intend on having it fixed themselves. Be wise, accept the cost and make the outside of your car look as shiny as it can be.

Offer them a clear view

This is something noticeable from both inside and outside. Check your windows, rare view mirrors and windshield for cracks and have them replaced. In order to spend less, you can try to find appropriate used-ones and pay someone to have them installed. Every local auto service center will be able to assist you in getting new parts, be it new ones or used ones.

Think of the interior

Inside of the car is where a new owner will spend most of their time. When they decide to take the car for a test ride, they will also notice the state of the interior and the comfortableness. Think about cleaning and painting the dashboard, replace the seat covers and the mats, and thoroughly clean the rest of the upholstery. Have it shine both on the inside and the outside. If you want to appeal to all senses, get a new air freshener.

New shoes

Check the shoes on your ride. Inspect the tires and think about replacing them unless you had it done recently. Again, this is one of the expenses that most buyers will think of as additional, and you can treat them with a perk of having it already done for them and include it in the price. Polish the wheels and spray the tires for that shiny black look to match the exterior of your car and look like its fresh from a store.

Have everything in writing

People are naturally skeptical when dealing with strangers and even more so when they are purchasing used goods. As much as they would like to believe you that you took good care of your car, they will take it with reserve unless you have something to show for it. Keep maintenance records for your car and if you havent done it so far, visit your mechanic and see if they can issue you with a proof of regular upkeep. This will encourage a potential buyer to trust you and thus have a better feeling about you and consequently your car

Keep in mind that you are the one speaking for your car when selling it. Try to leave an impression of someone who knows what they are talking about and are certain of the cars general state. Be confident, dont look desperate and have a ready answer if they question your decision to sell such a good car.

17 Ways To Help Your Child Succeed At Sports

17 Ways To Help Your Child Succeed At Sports

Doctor, author describes simple strategies to help parents, coaches and kids to enjoy sports and to perform to their fullest potential.

Most parents want their children to enjoy sports and to do as well as they can when they participate and when they compete.

"Every day, I get calls from parents who feel their children are not performing up to their potential. The kids are choking, frustrated and lacking in confidence and focus. Parents are very frustrated and so are the children, says Dr. Jay Granat.

According to Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., Psychotherapist, author of many books and programs on sports psychology and founder of www.StayInTheZone.com, there are a number of simple steps parents can take to help their kids enjoy sports and do well at sports.

Do what you can to make sure that your child is having a positive experience with his or her coaches and teammates. The wrong coach can turn a child off to a sport or to sports in general. Similarly, conflicts with other kids and peer pressure can make a sport quite unpleasant for a youngster. Parents need to help their children to resolve these interpersonal issues, and in some instances, they need to intervene or intercede on their child's behalf.

Determine if your child seems better suited for team sports or for individual sports. Some kids love the camaraderie of team sports. Others like to compete on their own. And of course, some kids like both. One of my patients found that she loved tennis much more than softball because she enjoyed being out there on her own. This youngster is now a nationally ranked tennis player, because she has found her niche.

Be aware of burn out. If your child has lost some of his or her enthusiasm and you notice that he or she is performing, your youngster may be suffering from burn out. Talk to them and see if they need a break, a new challenge, a new kind of motivation or a different approach to their sport.

Lots of kids have difficulty managing busy schedules which include games, practice, travel, cross training, fitness training, speed training, family activities and school work. In many instances, the parents and their kids are spread quite thin and are quite overwhelmed due to over scheduling. Help your child and your family find a balance and make sure that they do not have too much on their young plates.

Is your child an elite athlete? Elite athletes often show mature talent and exceptional drive early on. "I counsel many athletes who fall into this category and they usually report loving their sport at an early age. They love practice and they usually can compete successfully with kids who are a few years older than they are," says the founder of www.stayinthezone.com

While there are some children who can excel at several sports, most top athletes who are thinking about Division I colleges, The Olympics and being a professional, focus on one sport today. If your child is an elite athlete, you will discover that the age of specialization has now crept into sports. For instance, today, top baseball players don't just get a baseball coach. They get a second base coach, a hitting coach and a pitching coach.

If your child wants to achieve a high level of success at sports, it is essential that the coach, the youngster and you have a good working relationship. I frequently intervene to help everyone to get on the same page. Once everyone is working as a team, the young athlete tends to feel better and perform better.

Expect to have different coaches and trainers during the course of your kid's athletic career. This is normal. Be open to switching because different coaches teach different things and they call all have a positive impact on your youngster. If you and your child and the coach are in constant friction, something is wrong and it needs to fixed. A change just might be what the child needs to continue to improve and to grow in his or her sport.

Many young and talented athletes are clueless about the mental aspects of their sport. For example, I counseled a very talented tennis player who knew zero about the strategy of the game and less about her own psychological strengths and weaknesses. I was a bit shockedat how weak her mental skills were, since her mother owned and ran a successful tennis facility.

Similarly, I have seen hundreds of very talented young golfers who can hit the ball great on the range but who fall apart on the course.

Likewise, many baseball players with great swings can not hit in game conditions because they think very poorly about the game, the count and about themselves when they step up to the plate.

If you want your child to excel at sports they need to learn to understand the strategy as well as the internal mental aspects of their sport. It is wise to expose your child to mental toughness training early in their sporting careers.

Do whatever you can to teach your child to be relaxed, confident, focused and optimistic on and off the court. Show them how to manage the successes and the setbacks.

Introduce your child to mental toughness training, visualization and self-hypnosis at an early age. Every top athlete uses these techniques. Here is a link for a simple program which many young athletes use: http://www.stayinthezone.com/get_stay.htm

If your child is under age 12, have him or her listen to Bed TimeStories For Young Athletes. http://www.stayinthezone.com/children_sports.htm This program is designed to help young athletes to perform to their fullest potential.

If your child is a baseball player who is great in the cage, but who tends to choke in games, 101 Ways To Break Out Of A Hitting Slump can help to solve his or her problems at the plate. http://www.stayinthezone.com/baseball.htm

If your child plays golf and want a good introduction to the mental aspects of the game, there is a simple CD program to help with the psychological aspects of golf. http://stayinthezone.com/golf.htm

13 Ways You Can Repurpose Household Items

13 Ways You Can Repurpose Household Items

In past decades, it was common to fix what that got broken or no longer worked. Today, our society has made a habit of quickly replacing products at the slightest sign of a defect or scratch, which has significantly increased the amount of waste that accumulates each year. Most purchased items are thrown away within six months. To reduce the amount of waste generated and care for the planet, there are a few alternate uses for common home items.

1. Plastic Straw
Colorful drinking straws can be used to prevent too much water from coming into contact with the flower stems in a vase. Use straws either in bright colors or those that blend in with the stems to extend the lifespan of your flowers and allow them to thrive.

2. Mouse Pads
Mouse pads can be used in more ways than what they were originally intended for. They can also be cut into fun designs and coaster shapes. The material is durable and will prevent moisture from coming into contact with the surface of a coffee table. The pad is also an insulator of heat and will prevent hot cups or mugs from damaging your tables. There is a number of different color mousepads, which can also make it easy to create decorative trivets to use in the kitchen.

3. Rubber Bands
Rubber bands are a household item that is extremely versatile and can be used in a number of ways. They were originally patented in 1845 and continue to be used for their ability to bind different items. Use rubber bands on glassware if you have children around, because their little fingers will need a better grip. At childrens parties, use different color rubber bands to mark each individual childs glass. In the summertime or spring, you can wrap them around hangers to prevent light shirts or blouses from slipping off.

4. Bread Box
Although bread boxes were commonly used in the '80s and '90s, they are now somewhat outdated, but a new purpose is all it needs to make them cool again. Upcycle your bread box by turning it into a charging station for smartphones and tablets. Drill holes in the back where the cords can fit through and insert an MDF board as the divider. Label each slit to make it easy to find each charger.

5. Toilet Paper Roll
Instead of tossing out old toilet paper rolls, use it to suck up dust and dirt in windows and doors by placing it over the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner.

6. Plastic Bottles
Ever been a student away on college or moved to a new home? Cutlery may be hard to find in all that mess. Make your own forks, spoons and knives out of old plastic bottles that are lying around the house. You can bend the plastic and create smooth edges by using a lighter.

7. Lotion and Shampoo Bottles
A common inconvenience in the home is having your phone lie on the floor as it charges next to an outlet. Use a lotion or shampoo bottle that will fit your device, decorate it as you wish and cut a hole at the top you will use to hang that charging station.

8. Old Trays
Create a vintage setting in your home by displaying old food trays on the walls, which will give your kitchen or dining room that antique and eclectic look everyone who visits will be jealous of.

9. Cheese Graters
You can create a work of art out of old graters by nailing the kitchen tool to a wood plank and turning it upside down to use as light sconces or lampshades. The innovative product will look unique in your home and stand out in the kitchen or dining room.

10. Old Frames
Take out the matting and glass in old frames to use the product as a necklace or earring holder. Install hooks on the frame to hold necklaces and old lace or thread where earrings can be secured.

11. Old Chairs
Instead of tossing out old chairs that are no longer used, transform the standard household item into a flowerpot holder after adding a fresh coat of paint.

12. Changing Tables
Parents sometimes have a difficult time separating from all their kids essentials like toys, strollers and the like. Create a decorative wine cart out of the old changing table that is no longer used in nurseries, but which will stay with you for a long time to come.

13. Outdated Computers
With the right safety equipment and tools, you can transform outdated computers into fish tanks. Remove the CRT, make a plexiglass tank and add a large hole at the top of the monitor as an access panel. Use aquarium sealant used after removing the wires, fill the tank and watch your screen saver come alive.

Upcycling home items will allow you to reuse household products that can contribute to the functionality of decor of your home. The items may be considered junk, but you can transform them into one-of-a-kind treasures. Think about how you can create something new out of old valuables and prevent more products from being sent to the junk yard.

10-Year Rule To Become An Expert

10-Year Rule To Become An Expert

10-Year Rule To Become An Expert

At least two creativity theorists (Csikszentmahalyi & Piirto) argue that creativity (with a big C) relies upon a certain degree of mastery over a domain in order for a creator to be successful. Mastery is also needed, they claim, for creative products to be widely accepted and recognized by others, especially critics. In other words, one thing that may define people with a consistently high level of creative performance is the degree of expertise in a specific domain or discipline that has taken place over time, as well as practice and experience. Piirto calls this the 10 year rule. Any person, she claims, must have been working in a domain for a minimum of 10 years in order to achieve international recognition (15).

In this essay, the 10-year rule will be introduced using arguments presented by Jane Piirto and Mihaly Csikszentmahalyi. One of the primary criticisms of the 10-year role - namely the spontaneous nature of creativity will also be addressed. Finally, two personal examples will be used to support the 10-year rule.

Weve all heard performance artists say how much they studied music and practiced with an instrument like the guitar before they were able to play more advanced classical pieces and develop their own unique style. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? the adage goes. Practice, practice, practice!

Support for the 10-year rule may be found in the expertise (or eminence) hypothesis presented by Piirto that every field and domain of knowledge in which creativity can be demonstrated has novice levels, apprenticeship levels, expert levels, and special jargons (15). Nonetheless, exploration of the levels of creativity (i.e., novice, apprenticeship, expert) has largely evaded theorists. Morever, little has been written about the relationship of the expert with his or her master teacher along the continuum of creativity levels. In short, what role does a master teacher plays in producing creative genius and progressing from novice to expert? What is it that allows for mastery to take place? One explanation, says Piirto, is that master coaches and teachers have codified the knowledge necessary for mastering the domain (15). In essence, they are the key holders to the secret code.

Confirmation for the 10-year rule also appears in the work of Csikszentmihalyi, specifically regarding the incubation phase of creativity. He argues that it is impossible for a person who has not mastered a domain or been involved in a field (102) to take full advantage of the incubation phase. He implies that a certain amount of the patterns, knowledge and rules of a field like physics must be internalized before deeper incubation can occur or creative, scientific breakthroughs be made. In other words, a discoverer must be familiar with a discipline for deeper creative solutions to emerge.

Criticisms may come from people who say that everyone is creative (with a small c); unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of this essay. Criticisms may also come from those who associate creativity with spontaneous, free flowing improvisations. There are few rules for creativity, they claim. This is indeed a valid argument. However, even with improvisational genius, some degree of expertise and rule-following is required as a foundation beyond practice, practice, practice.

Performers who rely on a large amount of apparent spontaneity (i.e., orators and comedians, for example) actually do follow rules of impeccable timing and use expertise in voice modulation and intentional pausing, amongst other personal skills many that are not apparent to the novice (I would say here Im at the apprentice level). For example, one of the greatest public speakers that Ive ever heard is Dr. Jean Houston. She employs a great deal of spontaneity and humor along with wildly evocative and energizing lexicon (i.e., universal self, core tapping, pollination, social artistry, passion for the possible, lure of becoming) launched with such delicacy and impeccable timing. She relies on her extensive expertise in hypnosis, theater, group dynamics, and comedy (her father was a comedy writer for Bob Hope and the creator of the famous Whos On First? skit). She is also one of the most widely-read people I know. One of the foundations for her speaking is a scripted text that represents countless hours of research and analysis (also her genius) of a wide range of subjects, from the new field of social artistry to spiral dynamics to ancient mystery school practices. She once told me that in 20 years she compiled over 200 unpublished 400-page manuscripts on the shelves that she has used as scripts for her presentations. These may not be apparent on the surface to a novice but they represent many decades of practice and experience.

Personally, there are two examples of the 10-year rule that I can apply to my life personally and professionally. The first happened during high school. I received a great deal of public recognition after I gained performance mastery in the sport of football. I received many accolades (i.e., all-state running back, school and state (Michigan) records-setter, and Hall of Fame athlete) as a result of my performance during my senior (12th) year. Although I had been playing organized football for only five years, I had watched a lot of football on TV previously. I also participated in pick-up games and organized sports like baseball and basketball with neighbors for more than five years. My experience and practice in football totaled more than 10 years.

To support the role of master teachers presented earlier, I would like to appreciate my high school football coach, Fred Pessell, for challenging me in middle school to be a better running back than Ralph Ryan, a classmate. That challenge ignited a competitive drive for me to move forward. I got involved in school-supported football at that point (8th grade). Two years later, Coach Pessell elevated me to the varsity team as a sophomore to challenge me even more and bring my fledgling skills to a higher level. Finally, it was Coach Pessells adaptation of the Ohio State Buckeyes power-I offense that created a structure through which my talent flourished and shined.

Finally, the second example of the 10-year rule happened to me professionally. Starting in 1988, I wrote (and management) 48 out of 52 successful grant proposals (92+% success rate). To contribute to the field and challenge myself, I created a 10-credit college grant writing certification program. I basically documented what works in grant writing and began teaching others what I knew. I wrote a masters thesis on the Metaphysics of Successful Grant Writing which I turned into a teaching/learning book on grant writing. My students have since gone on to generate over $1.2 billion in funding in 2.5 years. Now, I am exploring best practices in fundraising and endowment campaigns as part of my Ph.D. This area is easy for me, Im confident speaking and writing, and my contributions are almost immediately well-received largely because I enjoy grant writing/management and teaching experience of more than 12 years.

10 reasons why you should play badminton!

Badminton is one of the most popular sports not only for competition, but also for enjoyment in spare time. Badminton courts are available in all community sport centres and in local schools or colleges. Even without courts or nets, you could still play badminton in parks or in your backyards if they are big enough.

1. A game for all ages.

Badminton can be an energetic pursuit or a light workout, depending on individual choice. Because of that, you could start playing badminton from as young as you are able to swing a badminton racket, to as old as not being able to move around the court.

2. Social events

Badminton clubs are badminton communities. During club nights and matches you have opportunities to meet new people and catch up with old friends, who are from different backgrounds. Many clubs have social calendars with club fun nights, fund raisers and Christmas parties organised.

3. Body building

Badminton requires running, jumping, and fast paced movement, this boosts flexibility and speed. The constant range of motion tones legs, buttocks, arms, shoulders, back and stomach as well. It develops strength and power on the legs and arms.

After playing badminton for sometime regardless of levels, players will experience improved balance and co-ordination. Increase a bit more intensity of the game can boost upper body strength, core stability and stamina, and improve reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

Working and stretching muscles releases hormones that tone and firm the body. Leg and arm movements required for a badminton match are as repetitive as the movements used in weight lifting programs, but instead of external weights. The body's momentum creates its own weight lifting workout. Playing badminton tones the body for a smooth, non-muscular look.

4. Reduce blood pressure and risks of heart disease

Hypertensive persons can benefit greatly from playing badminton because it drops the basal heart rate by a few beats per minute and it also reduces the blood pressure significantly. Badminton helps in warding off hypertension without the need for medications and it helps in reducing the dosage of medications needed in more severe cases of hypertension.

Playing badminton on a regular basis protects from various heart diseases. It strengthens the heart muscle, keeps the blood vessels from clogging and causing further health complications. Persons who have some kind of pre-existing heart disease can also enjoy the benefits of playing badminton under proper medical supervision that will not put any additional stress on their endurance levels.

5. Increase bone density & prevention of osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become loose because of interactions between the hormones in the body, the forming of bones and the cells that dissolve bones. Persons suffering from osteoporosis have reduced bone strength and that means that it is very easy for them to sustain bone fractures.

Playing badminton helps those suffering from osteoporosis because it helps the activity of the cells that form bones and it also helps assimilating the calcium in the bone matrix, which strengthens it. Regular badminton games also reduces various cancer risks.

6. Cholesterol balance

In our body, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) are bad cholesterols and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) is the only good cholesterol.

Regular badminton exercises help reduce the levels of bad cholesterol and increase the levels of good cholesterol in the body. Bad cholesterol is not beneficial for the health because it enlarges the blood vessels, which may lead to heart attacks and strokes. The reduction of bad cholesterol levels provides health benefits on many different levels.

7. Weight loss

Badminton can also help overweight people in reducing fat and attaining the weight optimal for their age and height. This happens because a person burns significant amounts of calories and prevents them from piling up as fat and further increasing their weight. A 70kg man can burn up to 493kcal per hour. Regardless whether it is a competitive or non-competitive badminton game. Combined with proper diet, the optimal weight loss may be achieved.

8. Improve mental health

In addition to the physical benefits, playing badminton improves various indexes of physio-psychologic functioning. These individuals are better adjusted, have more attenuated cardiovascular and neurohumoral responses to mental stress, have fewer symptoms of anxiety, depression, and some type A behaviors. Playing badminton keeps you feeling well, strong and motivated. It can help in coping with anxiety and stress and offers a release from the pressures of everyday life.

9. Decrease diabetes

According to the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 1/3 of children born in the 21st century will develop type II diabetes. Exercise can help by decreasing the amount of sugar the body produces. It can decrease the production of sugar by the liver and therefore overall can decrease fasting blood sugar. In fact in one study, exercise was able to decrease the incidence of developing Diabetes by 58% even better than medication.

10. A good fun to play

Last but not the least, it is really a good fun to play badminton once you getting into the game. You could get addicted. Learn new tricks or techniques such as net shots, drop shots or jump smash, and show them off in badminton courts to your friends or opponents. Even you lose some games, but the sense of enjoyment is something that other stuff can not replace.

If you would like to improve your badminton techniques and enjoy the games more, please visit and share at http://www.xbadmintontricks.com.

8 Ways to Boost Your Testosterone

8 Ways to Boost Your Testosterone

8 Ways to Boost Your Testosterone

Many men, myself included, are looking for a safe and effective way to boost their natural testosterone. Increased testosterone levels have many benefits, especially for men who are over 35. It will make you not only look better, but feel better as well.

So, what are the safe, legal and effective ways that we men have to boost our natural testosterone levels?

I want to take a look now at 8 popular testosterone enhancing sports supplements. You may or may not have heard about all 8, but do you know if they actually work? This article will answer that question for you.

Here are the 8 testosterone boosters we will be looking at:

1. ZMA
2. Tribulus Terrestris
3. Fenugreek
4. Activate by Designer Supplements
5. 6-OXO
6. Avena Sativa
7. Tongkat Ali
8. Yohimbe

ZMA ZMA is a designed mineral formula comprised of zinc monomethionine aspartate, magnesium aspartate and vitamin B-6. They are combined in specific ratios to supposedly maximize the effectiveness of ZMA. A 1999 study showed increases of up to 30% in free and total testosterone during an 8 week study of NCAA football players. However, this study was conducted by one of the owners of the company that holds the patent on ZMA. Not completely unbiased.

ZMA may have helped testosterone levels because the mineral zinc and magnesium play important roles in the production of anabolic hormones, especially testosterone. The study participants were shown to have borderline deficient levels of both minerals at the beginning of the study, so raising their levels to normal could have accounted for the rise in testosterone.

I wouldn't rule out ZMA completely, most people in the U.S. are deficient in both zinc and magnesium. The additional zinc and magnesium could bring your levels up to normal and thus help your natural testosterone production. 8 out of 10 stars!

Tribulus Terrestris This is a weed that grows in temperature and tropical climates and has been used for centuries to increase libido in males. Does it also increase testosterone levels as many supplement companies would have you believe? That depends on who is taking it.

Tribulus terrestris HAS been shown to increase testosterone levels by as much as 30%, but only in individuals who have low testosterone levels to begin with. It will raise your levels to normal, but it will not raise them if you already have normal testosterone levels.

So, tribulus terrestris is partially useful as a testosterone booster. If you are overtrained, if you are on a low calorie cutting' diet or if you are recovering from steroid or prohormone use (as part of PCT) tribulus terrestris can be useful n raising your testosterone levels. Don't expect that it will give you super high test levels or significantly increased libido. 6 out of 10 stars!

Fenugreek Fenugreek is an herb found primarily in Indian food. It has historically been used by nursing mothers to increase milk production. Studies on fenugreek are scant, but it has been shown to decrease blood sugar levels of type II diabetics.

Recently, fenugreek has found its way into bodybuilding supplements as as testosterone enhancer. There is no proof at all that this is true. Because of it's effect on blood sugar levels it could be useful as a cutting supplement used to lower blood sugar and insulin spikes. 2 out of 10 stars!

Activate Activate is a fairly new product from Designer Supplements that claims to increase free testosterone levels in the body. The active ingredient has been trademarked under the name Divanil and is an extract of the stinging nettle plant.

Your body has both free testosterone and bound testosterone. Only the free testosterone is of use to you in building muscle. So, you may have high testosterone levels, but if all of it is bound it is useless to you for muscle building.

Your body controls the amount of free testosterone through a protein called Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). The SHBG binds to your free testosterone making it unavailable for muscle building. Activate works by inhibiting (decreasing) the SHBG in your body. This means more of your testosterone is free to help with your muscle building.

There are no studies confirming the rise in free testosterone levels, but there are studies showing that lignans from stinging nettle extract inhibit SHBG and user feedback is almost unanimously positive. I myself have used Activate several times and find that it increases focus in the gym, hardens my muscles and also increased libido. 10 out of 10 stars!

6-OXO This is a product developed and trademarked by Ergopharm. The active ingredient is 4-etioallocholen-3,6, 17-trione. There have been several studies to date that validate 6-OXO as a testosterone booster. These studies while small have shown average free testosterone increases of 126%. Longer term studies are still underway, but initial reports are positive. 9 out of 10 stars!

Avena Sativa Please don't believe the hype behind avena sativa. Avena sativa is the scientific name for wild oats. Tasty and a good source of carbohydrates to be sure, but a testosterone booster? No way! There are no studies or historical evidence that avena sativa does anything to increase testosterone levels. 0 out of 10 stars!

Tongkat Ali Tongkat ali is an extract from the root of the Eurycoma shrub found mainly in Malaysia and Indonesia. It is also called Longjack and Eurycoma Longfolia.

Traditionally it has been used as an aphrodisiac as well as a libido booster in SE Asia. Studies confirm that it works very well, increasing both sexual function and endurance as well as libido.

Researchers are unsure how Tongkat ali works, but they believe that it both increases testosterone production and increases free testosterone. Like a 1-2 punch. Common effects from Tongkat ali are increased well being, better body composition, increased libido and increased focus and aggression.

Tongkat ali does take some time to start working so it may take up to 2 weeks before you start to see its effects. You also need to make sure you are getting an extract of the root powder and not just root powder. The extract is more expensive, but necessary. 8 out of 10 stars!

Yohimbe Yohimbe has been used as a testosterone booster as well as a fat loss aid. While it does aid in fat loss through several mechanisms, there is no proof that it boosts testosterone levels.

It is likely that people believe it increases testosterone because it does increase libido, however the libido increase is not due to a testosterone increase. Yohimbe works partially as a vasodialator which means it opens up blood vessels, especially those in the lower extremeties such as the genetalia.

Yohimbe has also been shown to have several negative and possibly dangerous side effects and many physicians advise their patients not to take yohimbe because of these side effects. 3 out of 10 stars!

8 Cold Calling Tips to Motivate & Inspire

Following on from the positive responses to my previous article, 7 tips for confident cold calling, I thought that I would continue with 8 more of my 23 tips for confident cold calling...

Tip 8 Don't put the phone down between calls.

Putting the phone down between calls can slow you down and impede your motivation. Keep the energy going by keeping the phone in your hand once you start your cold calling sessions.

Many salespeople and business people stop and go during sessions on the phone. Much like jogging down a busy street, this constant chopping and changing is tiring and drains your positive momentum. Each time you stop you need to get your motivation back to get going again, so it is far better to get motivated, get going and keep going.

Tip 9 Wear a headset if at all possible.

Wireless ones are the best. Holding the phone to your ear can impede your movement and impact your ability to communicate naturally. By using a headset you allow yourself more freedom of movement. The more freedom of movement you have, the more you can express yourself.

Many people I work with object to using a headset at first for a variety of reasons. They will often try it for a day or two and then say that it does not work for them.

As with anything new, using a headset for the first time may feel a little strange and could take you a little while to get used to. Once you have pushed through this discomfort however you will reap the benefits of a more natural posture and more freedom of movement and expression.

Tip 10 Sit up, or better still, stand up, when on the phone.

This is a particularly useful tactic at the start of cold calling sessions or when you are feeling your enthusiasm beginning to cool off. Sitting up or standing up will inject much needed energy and vitality into your cold calls.

Sales managers of old used to understand this and make salespeople stand up until they had made their first appointment or their first sale of the day.

Few sales managers would make their teams stand today (and would probably get far too many threats and moans if they did!) but that does not mean that it isn't great advice. Your sales manager may not tell you to stand up but you can make the decision to do so yourself...

After all, it is you who will reap the benefits.

Tip 11 Keep your head up and breathe naturally.

Maintain the correct physiology by keeping your head up and breathing naturally. This helps to improve your focus, your attention and your motivation.

Your physiology plays a large part in how you feel internally. If you have a positive and upbeat physiology then it is hard not to feel motivated and up for it. Ask yourself, "How would I sit if I was totally motivated and confident?" and then sit that way!

Tip 12 Be well prepared.

Being well prepared not only enables you to make more targeted and more professional calls but it also increases your confidence because it helps you to know that you are going to make a great call.

The vast majority of cold calls are poorly prepared and poorly researched. I cannot count the number of salespeople who ring me as a decision maker and who have clearly no idea what they are going to say and how they are going to say it.

Stand out from the crowd and differentiate your call by preparing effectively and structuring a call that is of genuine interest to your prospect.

Tip 13 Learn from your mistakes.

Everyone makes mistakes. The real question is not whether you make any mistakes but whether you learn from them or not.

Life is all about mistakes and how you deal with them. Many people make mistakes when cold calling, get rejected and then do their level best to avoid cold calling in the future!

If you want to be a sales superstar you need to learn how to deal with mistakes. Ask yourself, "What can I learn from this situation to improve my sales techniques and approach in the future?"

Tip 14 Remind yourself of past successes.

Think of a time when you achieved success through cold calling; maybe when you won a piece of new business or secured a sales appointment with an important decision maker. This will help to get you thinking positively and feeling more confident.

It is well worth keeping a log book of your successes. If you work as part of a team, why not spend time sharing your cold calling successes. Few salespeople or teams spend enough time focusing on the positive and reinforcing their beliefs that "cold calling works".

Tip 15 Accept that you can't win them all.

So stop beating yourself up when you don't! Even the best cold callers don't get that appointment or close that deal every time so get over it already.

The only true failure is giving up and giving in. Every successful person fails at some time. When you fail just see it as a stepping stone on your path to success.

Take some time now to think about how you can use these cold calling tips and strategies for helping you to become a more confident and proactive cold caller...
